Teeth whitening is a suitable treatment option for patients looking to improve the appearance of their smile. How effective this treatment is will depend on the health and type of staining of your teeth, so it is important to have a consultation with your dentist. At Sydney Dental Specialists, we offer in-chair and take-home professional whitening treatments.
Our teeth darken as we get older, and there are other things we do on a regular basis that stain our teeth. Over time, the outer layer of teeth accumulates stains and become discoloured. This discolouration can be attributed to:
Your oral health is the priority. Before any treatment is carried out, one of our dentists will assess your oral health and determine the best course of treatment for you. If the cause of your tooth discolouration is cosmetic, we offer take-home and in-office teeth whitening treatments.
The in-office treatment takes around one hour and can brighten your teeth up to 8 shades; we will then provide you with a take-home touch-up kit to help you keep your teeth whiter for longer. This treatment involves applying a whitening gel to your teeth and activating it with a special blue light. The light is activated for 15 minutes at a time and is usually done three times.
On average, a teeth whitening treatment can last between 9 to 12 months; however, it depends on how well you look after your oral health. Regular check-ups and consuming less tooth-staining food and drink are good ways of maintaining a healthy-looking smile.
A take-home whitening treatment can take up to 2 weeks. The strength of the whitening gel given is not as strong as that used in-chair, and how often you apply it will also determine how quickly the treatment takes effect.
Both in-chair and take-home whitening are effective whitening options. And the one that is best for you comes down to your preference. An in-chair treatment only takes an hour, and you’re done. However, if you would rather not spend that time in the dental chair; our take home option allows you to whiten your teeth in the comfort of your own home, and in your own time.
