Dental crowns can be all-ceramic for cosmetic purposes, or they can be porcelain on metal for teeth in the back of the mouth. In this case, the metal helps the crown sustain the bite pressure while the porcelain is colour-matched to your natural teeth. The end result with whichever crown you use is one that will restore the appearance of your smile.
At Sydney Dental Specialists we have an in-house team of dental technicians to fabricate the dental crowns for you. Having these technicians on-site allows us to more clearly communicate and so produce better results.
The treatment process for dental crowns takes place over 3 appointments.
Your first appointment is a consultation with one of our prosthodontists. During this consultation your oral health will be assessed, and x-rays taken. We will then discuss what you can expect with treatment and how long the treatment process will take.
Your second appointment will be when an impression of your teeth is taken, and then your tooth prepared for the dental crown. The impression will be sent to the lab where the more permanent restoration will be fabricated. While you wait for this a temporary crown will be placed.
During this appointment the temporary crown is removed and the more permanent tooth is bonded into place. The dental crown can last up to twenty years provided you take good care of your oral health.
At Sydney Dental Specialists, our dedicated team will work closely with you to ensure you receive the best quality dental care. If you would like to know more about how we can help you, or to book an appointment, please contact us today.
